That being said, here is the SOLUTION: using LaunchControl and the developer‘s help we were able to get my to drives to automatically backup with TimeMachine and unmount upon completion. While at it, click on Show Advance Settings as well to reveal a few other configuration options. So I guess thats why TimeMachineScheduler isnt doing it anymore either. 3 AM is quite arbitrary, choose any time past 2 AM.
