Nevertheless, the writer of this review, who in the over three years of working here has undoubtedly had a profound impact on generations of children and families through dedication to a field which is certainly underappreciated in general, has left feeling underappreciated by the agency itself. For instance, due to staff requests for more training related to cultural bias, microaggressions and racism, we have begun the work of implementing this as an agency focus to address in all aspects of our work moving into 2020. But we do strive to be as open as we can to the most difficult of conversations and criticisms to make ourselves better. We are certainly far from perfect as an agency and as individuals. Signing Hands Across the Water gave College members and visitors to College a unique opportunity to discover sign language poetry in the United States and. To name a few: increased PTO and Holidays increased pay and bonuses throughout the year paid team building/fun events parties, luncheons staff shout outs/employee of the month recognition addition of numerous benefits (life, short and long term disability, dental) excellent health insurance with premiums for employees paid in full compensation for all work done including overtime and on-call pay weekly yoga/mediation sessions during the workday monthly reflective supervision flexible schedules remote work policies Feedback from staff about ways to improve our work is not only welcomed but is deeply considered and used to implement necessary changes. Agency attention to ensuring that staff feel cared for and appreciated as well as initiatives to achieve greater work/life balance in an extremely stressful line of work are numerous. Working in this field is not for everyone, and those who make it their vocation do not leave unscathed. ![]() However, we do demand a whole lot of our team, front line staff to managers, because the work we do (or do not do) has incredible impact on human lives. We especially value those who are invested enough to give constructive feedback about how the agency can improve. This an exhausting and challenging issue, especially for those who are left to manage the never-ending workload left behind by those who exit. Staff here are NOT disposable, though high staff turnover is prevalent in the field of child welfare. More importantly, this employee left the agency in so much pain themselves that they were inspired to discourage others from working in a field/agency that so desperately needs great people. ![]() It is painful to hear this feedback from a dedicated and long-term employee. The title of this review and many of the cons listed are like a punch in the gut for our management team. ![]()
